New Year with LANKUM

A celebratory New Years evening of music, food and dancing in the raggedly glorious company of Irish folk heroes LANKUM, who play a specially prepared set to see 2019 in.

More

Plus guests including kitchen sink improv punk force AUTOBITCH - whose members Katie & Kim also provide us with traditional Stovies for supper from 8pm - and lo-fi Belgian R&B craftsman The Lover BE.

Lankum are a four-piece group from Dublin, Ireland with an alchemical ability to combine traditional folk roots with contemporary undercurrents to forge music that is dark, mysterious and transcendental. Comprising brothers Ian Lynch (uillean pipes, tin whistle, vocals), Daragh Lynch (vocals, guitar) alongside Cormac Mac Diarmada (fiddle) and Radie Peat (harmonium, accordion, vocals), Lankum channel a diverse set of influences and histories to create a beautifully rare thing: a songbook from and for the people.

Autobitch take a few drum parts, a voice and occasionally an accordion, and head out into the wilds. Freeform proto-pop that serves up feral improvised epiphany, cathartic energy purge and righteous party vibration all at once.

Upon leaving New York some years ago, THE LOVER BE found himself exiled to the island of Europe. Lost and confused, he mistook the village of Hoboken near Antwerp, Belgium for the New Jersey city of the same name. Deciding to settle in the region, The Lover BE set about composing hymns of love to his adopted country via bumping slow jams, torch-lit DIY soul and quasi-funk freak-outs.
